​Finding a way to stop water leaking in a plumbing emergency situation is crucial and the following steps may assist.

*Confirm if water is leaking from a pipe or from outside the building.

If the leak is from a pipe….........

  • Turn off the water supply to the pipe.
  • Expose the area where the leak is coming from.
  • You may be able to fix a temporay repair clamp over the area of the burst.
  • Waterproof tape wrapped around the damaged area can make an effective temporary fix. 
  • You can use epoxy putty such as feropre to seal up a hole or crack in a water pipe.
  • You can also use silicon or a caulking compound.

Permanent Repairs for Leaking Water Pipes

  • Turn off the water supply to the pipe.
  • Remove the leaking section of pipe and replace it. 
  • This is more complicated than it sounds. 
  • How you do it depends on the type of water pipe. 
  • Specialist plumbing tools and equipment will be required. If you haven’t got these already, it is unlikely that you have the DIY skills to complete the job, in which case…this could be a job that is better left to a professional plumber.
