In the pipeline - Information Blog #3 - Storm Damage
October 28 2013
Gale force spring winds have caused extensive storm damage and Webb Plumbing Services have received numerous emergency call outs over the last three weeks.
Wind speeds have been recorded at up to 140km per hour, with this wild weather causing building damage, blackouts and foliage damage.
Some of the most severely hit areas include the inner-south eastern suburbs such as Windsor, Prahran, Armadale, South Yarra, Toorak, Malvern, Hawthorn and Glen Iris.
Webb Plumbing Services also had several emergency call outs to the bayside suburbs of Albert Park, Middle Park, Elwood, St Kilda, Brighton, Blackrock and even as far as Sandringham and Frankston.
Building and property damage we have attended to has included dislodge roof and ridge tiles, TV aerials being blown off roofs, Chimneys/flues being damaged and even sections of roofing having been ripped away.
Fortunately we have not seen extensive internal water damage yet but expect this will follow in the coming weeks during heavy and prolonged periods of spring rain.
Our initial works at properties include barricading off any dangerous areas, making temporary repairs so as to prevent water leaks and securing the buildings infrastructure to prevent personal-injury.
We have provided numerous reports, quotations and supporting documents to property owners, managers and insurance groups and have commenced and completed some of the permanent repairs required.
Recommendations for property owners/managers
-Inspect your property both internally and externally paying particular attention to any staining on ceilings and walls and unusual noises heard
-When inspecting externally, be sure to check the roof, chimneys, trees and any other exposed infrastructure
-Consider engaging a specialist roofing company to carry out an audit of your roof and associated infrastructure
